Recap: Windaba Connect 2024

Day one at Windaba Connect 2024 was a wonderful opportunity for INSPIRE to showcase our projects, read more about it now.

Windaba Connect

As Windaba Connect kicked-off yesterday, INSPIRE was proudly represented by Yumnaa Firfirey in the first session “Wind Energy Social Impact”. Moderated by Celiwe Mabaso (EDF Renewables), the panel also included Nthabiseng Jonas (VESTAS), Libby Hirshon (ENGIE Africa), Caroline Nhlane (Enel Green Power) and Simon Maul Hansen (Danish Energy Agency).

The plenary session was centred around IMPACT THROUGH WIND, and the speakers discussed how funds from wind energy could contribute towards greater impact in socio-economic development, explored the approach of integrating social imperatives from the outset of wind projects and leaving a legacy of more than megawatts. We also had a chance to learn about what IPPs and OEMs are doing to improve impact, and Simon Maul Hansen shared Danish examples of wind project and social impact.

During this session, the attendees were also introduced to INSPIRE by Yumnaa. During this time, Yumnaa also introduced our projects and key learnings, as well as invited attendees to register for our upcoming webinars and Learning Event. Read more below about these updates!

JustRE Alliance

This month marks the launch of JustRE, The Global South Alliance for a Just Transition to Renewable Energy and the launch of our new book, POWERFUL FUTURES.

Join us for the launch webinar on the 8th of October, where we discuss the book and along with our guest speakers, explore how to achieve a just energy future.

Community of Practice

During this phase of the project, we are working closely with the Inland 5 to explore and address the specific challenges and opportunities related to strategic education investments. This includes the webinar series, which journeys thorough the education life cycle through a series of webinars over the next few months, online deep dive sessions and in-person strategic planning sessions.

Our key learning from this project, is recognising the value of collaboration opportunities between IPPs, Community Trusts and expert partners like DGMT.

Trust Matters

In partnership with the IDC this project is an investment in exploring the full spirit of community ownership, with the key objectives of creating networking opportunities, fostering best practice , building capacity and expanding connections.

Throughout this year we have held a series of Trust Connect Workshops, convened with Intermediaries, curated resources and have just announced the date of the final convening, INSPIREd Community Trusts

Our key learnings from this project have highlighted that all 4 factors of the Trust Maturity Framework are vital, that Community needs to be at the centre of our work, and that we have to begin by asking the questions; “What does community ownership really mean?”,  “What is the purpose?”, “What does success look like?” and ” How can we best support the institution to achieve this?.”
