Duration and Compensation:
This is a full-time internship position from mid-September 2025 until mid-March 2026. The intern will be provided with a competitive stipend of R15 000/month and gain valuable hands-on experience in the renewable energy sector. Flexible working arrangements can be considered and the work is to be conducted remotely.
The Position:
INSPIRE (Initiative for Social Performance in Renewable Energy) is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Intern to join our team. As an INSPIRE Intern, you will play a crucial role in supporting our organisation’s day to day and more strategic work. This Internship placement is focused on supporting the impact tracking and communication of impact stories. Your work will contribute to advancing social performance in South Africa’s renewable energy sector and promoting best practices in the field. This internship offers a valuable opportunity to gain practical experience and contribute to a just energy transition in South Africa and beyond.
Key Responsibilities
- Impact storytelling and communications: Identify and develop compelling stories that showcase INSPIRE’s impact. Take initiative to gather content from team members, partners, and events, including quotes, narratives, and visuals.
- Real-time content creation: Capture project progress as it unfolds and translate it into engaging blog posts, LinkedIn updates, and internal updates that reflect INSPIRE’s work in real time.
- Visual and design creation: Develop and edit basic visuals for communications, including design of flyers and visuals for LinkedIn posts.
- Event reflections and write-ups: Draft timely post-event reports and reflection pieces that highlight key moments, insights, and outcomes from INSPIRE’s learning events, workshops, and site visits.
- Monitoring and data support: Assist in tracking impact-related data, including gathering, organising, and analysing qualitative and quantitative information to support INSPIRE’s monitoring and evaluation processes.
- Knowledge sharing and reporting: Contribute to the preparation of clear and concise reports, summaries, and communication materials that feed into INSPIRE’s knowledge products and learning platforms.
- Collaborative teamwork: Work closely with the INSPIRE team and partners to coordinate communications and monitoring and evaluations efforts, ensuring stories and insights are captured and shared effectively.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Must have completed Honours and can be currently pursuing Master’s degree in a relevant field such as marketing, communications or journalism.
- Demonstrated interest in social impact, sustainability and/or renewable energy.
- Strong research skills with the ability to gather, analyse, and interpret data from various sources.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to write clear and concise reports.
- Attention to detail and the ability to self-organise and prioritise tasks effectively.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Strong interpersonal skills and cultural sensitivity to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- Proficiency in MS Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and familiarity with canva (or alternative professional design programme).
