Position Overview

INSPIRE is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Intern to join our team. As an INSPIRE Intern, you will play a crucial role in supporting our organisation’s day to day and more strategic work. Your work will contribute to advancing social performance in South Africa’s renewable energy sector and promoting best practices in the field. This internship offers a valuable opportunity to gain practical experience and contribute to a just energy transition in South Africa and beyond.

Key Responsibilities

Drafting and editing internal and external communications: Support the documentation and dissemination of information about INSPIRE’s work. This includes writing emails, memos, press releases, newsletters, and other written materials such as social media content (LinkedIn) to convey information to team members, funders, or the public.

Data collection and analysis: Assist in the collection and analysis of data to support ongoing projects and fundraising activities. This may involve conducting surveys, interviews, and data entry, as well as organising and summarising research findings.

Literature research and review: Conduct literature reviews to identify gaps in existing knowledge and provide recommendations for future research directions. Summarise and document key findings from literature sources. Identify new publications relevant for our online library.

Report writing: Contribute to the development of research reports, practice notes, and other knowledge products. Prepare clear and concise summaries of meeting and workshop discussions.

Collaborative teamwork: Work closely with other team members, including INSPIRE admin team, technical leadership, sub-contracted partners and external partners, to ensure effective communication and coordination of activities.

Stay updated: Stay abreast of the latest developments, trends, and best practices in social performance and renewable energy. Pro-actively read and research, and attend relevant webinars to enhance knowledge and skills in the field.

Qualifications and Skills

• Currently pursuing or recently completed a Master’s degree in a relevant field such as social sciences, humanities, economics or sustainability.
• Strong research skills with the ability to gather, analyse, and interpret data from various sources.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to write clear and concise reports.
• Attention to detail and the ability to self-organise and prioritise tasks effectively.
•Demonstrated interest in renewable energy, social impact, and sustainable development.
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
• Strong interpersonal skills and cultural sensitivity to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
• Proficiency in MS Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Duration and Compensation

This is a full-time internship position for a duration of 6 months (August – December 2024). The intern will be provided with a competitive stipend of R13 000/month and gain valuable hands-on experience in the renewable energy sector. Flexible working arrangements can be considered and the work is to be conducted remotely.ellence.net.
