We are pleased to welcome Juanita Fonseca-Duffo as the new JustRE International Network Coordinator, effective February as she takes over from Juan Pablo Cardenas. Juanita joins the JustRE Alliance at an important moment, bringing a strong blend of legal expertise, practical experience in clean energy and a deep commitment to social justice. We are grateful to Juan Pablo for his leadership and contribution to the alliance, and we look forward to building on that foundation under Juanita’s coordination.
Juanita brings extensive experience working across energy systems, legal frameworks and community-driven development initiatives throughout Latin America. Trained as a lawyer with an advanced degree from Stanford Law School, she has built a career that spans public institutions, private sector advisory work and nonprofit leadership with her work consistently focused on strengthening the connection between policy design and lived community realities.
She has played a leading role in creating and supporting initiatives that elevate women’s participation and leadership within the energy sector. Through her entrepreneurial and coalition-building efforts, she has helped design platforms and partnerships that enable community-based energy projects to access the tools, networks and regulatory understanding needed to succeed. Her approach combines technical and regulatory insight with participatory methods that centre local voices and shared ownership.
At the core of her work is a conviction that the energy transition must deliver tangible social and economic benefits, particularly for communities historically excluded from decision-making. This perspective aligns closely with the JustRE Alliance’s commitment to championing socially responsible renewable energy implementation that ensures meaningful participation and benefits for communities.
As Juanita steps into this role, we are confident that her experience and values-driven leadership will strengthen connections across the JustRE Alliance and further support its continued growth.
