Webinar: Collaboration to Unlock the Financial Capacity of RE Community Trusts

Community Trusts have become a cornerstone of South Africa’s renewable energy framework—designed to ensure that local communities benefit directly from the transition to clean energy. But while the intention is strong, the practical financial capacity of many Trusts remains under-realised. Outdated or poorly structured financial mechanisms, a lack of institutional capacity, and limited awareness of refinancing opportunities are just some of the signifcant barriers that limit what these vehicles can achieve.

That’s why INSPIRE, in collaboration with Infra Impact, is convening a vital webinar that will spotlight a blended finance vehicle aimed at redirecting capital back to the very communities these Trusts are meant to serve. The webinar will also offer insight into the broader regulatory environment, challenges observed by the IPP Office, and the lived realities of Trust performance.

📅 7 August | ⏰ 11:00 – 12:30 | 📍 Zoom

This session is a must-attend for IPP Executives, Trustees, SP Practitioners, Government Representatives, and Energy Policymakers committed to ensuring that community ownership delivers real development outcomes.

The webinar features an engaging mix of expert input and practical case studies. Participants will learn more about the original intent behind community ownership, examine the impacts of poor financial structuring, gain insight into Infra Impact’s blended finance approach and see real-world success stories from Trusts that have unlocked new development potential through refinancing.

Ultimately, this conversation is about making community ownership work—not just in theory, but in practice. By creating space for knowledge-sharing, showcasing successful models, and introducing practical financing tools, we aim to help Trusts unlock their full potential and drive inclusive development in the communities they serve. Don’t miss out!
