Our session at the Alternative Mining Indaba 2024 focused on community experiences in large-scale wind and solar projects under the theme, Energy Transition Minerals: Putting Communities First for an Inclusive Feminist Future, offering insights from industry experts and fostering meaningful discussions.
The participants demonstrated eagerness to learn about communities in renewable energy development. Surprisingly, many participants were unaware of the Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme (REIPPPP), the knowledge gap became an opportunity to share information and experiences. This, in turn, aligns with INSPIRE’s core impact area to provide knowledge about Economic Development in REIPPPP.
As the session progressed, we found ourselves amidst a group of well-informed individuals who were already familiar with the concept of trusts in various sectors. Attendees provided positive feedback, posed thoughtful questions, and offered valuable ideas for further work in the field. INSPIRE will leverage on the insights gained in discussions to inform the upcoming Trust Matters and Xazulula- “Resolve” projects, scheduled for introduction this February.
