The Socio-Economic Dynamics of Utility-Scale Renewable Energy in South Africa’s Just Energy Transition
The third and largest Academic Networking Event was held in Cape Town at the end of July, bringing together practitioners, academics, students and researchers from around South Africa, including attendees from 8 South African Universities.
In collaboration with the Centre for Sustainability Transitions and POWER FUTURES LAB, this event focused on exploring the social, governance and developmental impacts of utility-scale renewable energy in South Africa, with the key objective of fostering the academic capacity to support the renewable energy sector and SA’s JET.
Objectives
- Strengthen a network of students, researchers and practitioners
- Deepen understanding of the different research efforts and approaches underway
- Allow for sharing and peer learning in support of knowledge co-creation
- Identify emerging researching topics going forward
- Create alignment between research approaches and challenges faced by practitioners on the ground and in the sector
We enjoyed an insightful day of sharing and learning, facilitated by Alison McCallum, where we explored the different research efforts and approaches underway, discussed key findings and reflected on gaps and opportunities for enhanced collaboration and impact.
Capturing the day
The exchanges and learnings from the day were captured into by Grant from Graphic Harvest.
