The Academic Circle is a collaborative initiative convened by INSPIRE in partnership with the Centre for Sustainability Transitions at Stellenbosch University. It brings together researchers, academics, and postgraduate students who are actively engaged in themes related to social performance in the renewable energy sector.
The Academic Circle fosters a transdisciplinary, practice-oriented approach by creating a space for shared learning, critical inquiry and the exchange of ideas that influence socially inclusive RE transitions.
The monthly virtual sessions are designed to facilitate relationship-building, explore thematic intersections, and develop a community of practice that contributes to strengthening the evidence base for socially responsible RE development research. Participation is open to all and focuses on those working in, or closely adjacent to, the RE space, including those researching land, equity, governance, and community development issues.
Key outputs of the Academic Circle include shared learning documentation, event reports, and potential collaborative outputs that deepen understanding and influence both academic and applied practice in the RE sector. The initiative aligns with INSPIRE’s goals of cultivating research collaboration and advocating for social performance best practices.
